Vera Playa is an undiscovered
secret between the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca. Because of poor road and
rail communications it escaped the ravages of development in the 60s and 70s,
and the tourist booms that resulted in the high rise developments and the
Mediterranean highway. A large area of Vera Playa was designated as having
'official naturist' status. The Naturist Beach is 2km long, public and easily
accessible, with car parks adjacent to it. For a long time the only available
accommodation was in Natsun, or in the Vera Playa Hotel. These were rather
isolated, and most of the area remained undeveloped.
Then came Vera Natura, a high quality self
catering development. This consisted of a number of low rise apartment blocks
with spacious apartments, offering a lot of privacy and excellent communal
gardens and pools. Bahia de Vera followed on. This is another high quality
development, consisting of modern 2 storey apartment blocks with one and two
bedroomed apartments and duplexes (apartments on two levels). La Menara is the
second development by Vera Natura, adjacent to it.
Vera Playa is a couple of miles
from the town of Vera, which is situated inland. Vera is an old town. It has
interesting architecture, an impressive bullring and main square, and lots of
little shops and good supermarkets. On Saturdays its streets are filled with a
lively market, selling everything from superb fruit and vegetables to bedding
and kitchenware.
It is also a couple of miles from Garrucha,
an old fishing village and Spanish resort with an excellent promenade for
afternoon strolls and lots of fish restaurants. Here the market is on Fridays.
About four miles away is Mojacar, a lovely mountain village full of arts and
crafts, with a seafront that extends over a couple of miles, featuring the
classic tourist hotels, golf hotels, English bars, Irish bars, fish and chip
suppers, nightclubs and shopping centres. Our apartments have information packs
with maps, guide books, reviews of restaurants, details of local markets etc,
for your information.
We visited Vera Playa in May 2001 and
immediately fell in love with the La Manera development. This development is
quite unique. It has a Moorish style, with lots of architectural detail
reflecting the theme. It has much open space between the apartment blocks, with
spacious living areas, and luxury fittings, perfect for the ideal holiday.
La Menara is the only urbanisation in Vera
Playa to have a heated outdoor pool, which has a temperature of 22 degrees
throughout the winter. |
