La Menara Sat Nav Co-ordinates N

Vera Playa is now well served by communication links, which is why it
is being developed. There are 3 airports within travelling distance; Almeria,
Alicante and Murcia (San Javier).
This
is the closest airport and is about 45 minutes drive, by motorway. The
drive is simple, follow the signs for Murcia as you leave the airport
and you will soon reach the N344 motorway. Stay on that till you see the
sign for Vera then follow local directions. It would be possible to
travel to this airport if you do not wish to hire a car. Let us know in
advance and we can organise a pick up for you at a competitive price.
At
present, Monarch are flying into Almeria from Manchester,
and Birmingham. EasyJet fly from Stansted and Gatwick and Ryanair fly into
Almeria from Stansted and Dublin in the summer. Jet 2 flies into Almeria
from May to November, from Leeds.

slow down or stop at the end, the Spanish drivers do not
necessarily move over to let joining motorists in. |

Murcia Airport
Take note, if you are using Sat Nav and the maps are not really up to
date, you will be taken a long way round, as the AP7 is not on many Sat
Navs
Murcia (San Javier) Airport is
actually closer to Cartagena. It is slightly nearer to Vera Playa than
Alicante, now that the new toll road is open (the AP7) the drive only
takes about 1 1/4 hours, but the tolls are about 12 Euros each way. If
you really want a scenic drive (it is beautiful, but more than an hour
slower), use the coastal road that takes you through the heart of
Cartagena.
Murcia Airport is small and has
reasonable facilities. Flights are available here from many carriers and
many UK Airports. The easiest way to check is to use a search engine
that covers all the operators, I like Skyscanner.

Alicante Airport
This is the airport that serves the
Costa Blanca, it is big and busy. For a summary of all operators, try
using
www.skyscanner.com, this website gives an overview of all operators
from all airports.
A word of advice - if you have
a late arrival or an early departure, consider staying overnight at Hostal
La Posada in Torrellano. It is a couple of minutes from the airport,
extremely comfortable and welcoming, only 50 euro a night including
breakfast (freshly squeezed orange, fresh coffee, tostadas) and you can
make your drive in daylight hours when you are fresh. And the food is
superb, try the ox tail (rabo de toro)

Ferry Crossings
Brittany Ferries operate from Plymouth to Santander,
the crossing takes 18 hours and the drive from Santander to Vera takes about 8 hours. If
you wanted a long winter let, it is worthwhile. Contact us for information
and visit the Brittany Ferries Website www.brittanyferries.co.uk
P&O sail from Portsmouth to Bilbao.
Car Hire
Car Hire couldn't be simpler and is relatively inexpensive. We have had
excellent service from Carjet, which seems to act as a central booking
agency for several Spanish companies. The cars are new, in excellent condition,
insured fully comprehensive with no excess and no bail bond, and easy
to book over the internet. Look out for special offers as often a more
expensive class is being promoted and you might get luxury driving at
bargain basement prices. Air conditioning is a big advantage in the summer,
and with Petrol at about half British prices the reduced fuel consumption
shouldn't bother you too much (except your green conscience). Hiring an
air conditioned Ford Ka in spring cost us 71. A Ford Focus cost about
110.
Travel in the resort
Going out for a meal and a drink? Taxis are available locally, there
is a list of taxi firms in the apartments. Or alternatively go for a drink
to the Chiringuito on your way out and the waiter will order you a taxi.
Similarly, restaurants in Garruccha or Mojacar or elsewhere will book
your taxis, don't worry about language problems.
